Acetone is a kind of organic solvent, which is widely used in various industries. Its production process is very complex and requires a variety of reactions and purification steps. In this article, we will analyze the production process of acetone from raw materials to products.

First of all, the raw material of acetone is benzene, which is obtained from oil or coal tar. Benzene is then reacted with steam in a high-temperature and high-pressure reactor to produce a mixture of cyclohexane and benzene. This reaction needs to be carried out at a high temperature of 300 degrees Celsius and a high pressure of 3000 psi.

After the reaction, the mixture is cooled down and separated into two parts: the oil layer on the top and the water layer at the bottom. The oil layer contains cyclohexane, benzene and other substances, which need to undergo further purification steps to obtain pure cyclohexane.

On the other hand, the water layer contains acetic acid and cyclohexanol, which are also important raw materials for the production of acetone. In this step, acetic acid and cyclohexanol are separated from each other by distillation.

After that, acetic acid and cyclohexanol are mixed with concentrated sulfuric acid to produce a reaction mass containing acetone. This reaction needs to be carried out at a high temperature of 120 degrees Celsius and a high pressure of 200 psi.

Finally, the reaction mass is separated from the mixture by distillation, and pure acetone is obtained at the top of the column. This step removes the remaining impurities such as water and acetic acid, ensuring that the acetone meets industrial standards.

In conclusion, the production process of acetone is very complex and requires strict temperature, pressure and purification steps to obtain high-quality products. In addition, the raw material benzene is also obtained from oil or coal tar, which has a certain impact on the environment. Therefore, we should choose sustainable ways to produce acetone and reduce its impact on the environment as much as possible.
